Grace App, the winner of the 2010 Irish Web Awards and United Nations World Summit Award Mobile, is an evidence-based picture exchange application aimed at fostering independent communication through the use of images. Tailored for individuals with autism but suitable for anyone facing speech disabilities or delays, Grace App stands out as a tool designed to be user-owned and easily updated with minimal caregiver assistance.

The app functions by providing a choice of images in organized folders, allowing users to select a picture to add to the "sentence strip." This sentence can then be shared with a communication partner who assists in pointing to each card while reading the words aloud.

Featuring a default setting with no sound, Grace App offers an option in Settings to activate "Tap Card to Speak" for users preferring vocal output. Users can rotate handheld devices such as an iPod touch or iPhone to landscape mode for a fullscreen sentence view or tap the arrow on iPad to enlarge the sentence display. Additionally, users have the flexibility to select from three card sizes, catering to individual preferences and addressing visual or mobility impairments.

The app includes categorized folders with pre-loaded images, and users have the ability to add their own photos via the camera or access saved images from their photo library, including web-sourced ones. All images are customizable with text labels, providing options for deletion or rearrangement based on user needs. Furthermore, users can create new Category folders with their own photo selection, adjust category order and names as desired, and find detailed guidance in the Guide to Grace App located at <a href="http://www.graceapp.com">www.graceapp.com</a>.

User guides in the app also cover therapeutic strategies for achieving various communication goals like expressing "No" and "Wait" or seeking assistance. A section is dedicated to communicating pain, offering a comprehensive resource for users.
